Handyhand vs. Fixera – Which one really works better?

Marketplaces are great for some DIY-friendly tasks; a specialised handyman is faster for regulated or complex work.

Handyhand.dk is a popular Danish marketplace where anyone can post tasks and receive quotes from freelancers. Fixera is my direct handyman service: you deal with me (Greg), not a platform, and I handle the work personally. Both options can solve household jobs, but they perform differently depending on what you need.

I keep an eye on Handyhand rates because many customers come to me after difficult experiences. Below is a transparent comparison so you can decide which model protects your budget and your nerves.

Where Handyhand shines

  • Simple labour: If you need someone to move boxes, shovel snow, or help with a short-term chore, the marketplace can be cost-effective.
  • Very tight budgets: Prices can be low if you accept slower response times or limited guarantees.
  • Fully DIY tasks: When you supervise everything and quality control is easy, the risk is lower.

Where Fixera is safer

Many clients contact me after a marketplace attempt went wrong. These are the situations where a specialised handyman saves the day:

  1. Repairs with hidden damage. Water leaks, rot, misaligned doors and electrical issues rarely follow a script. A project-based quote prevents runaway hourly billing and ensures the root cause is fixed.
  2. Documentation and invoices. Landlords, insurance companies and home buyers often request proof of work. With Fixera you receive a registered invoice and a written summary of the repair.
  3. Liability. If a handyman breaks something or leaves a job unsafe, you need insurance to cover it. Fixera carries full liability coverage so you are not left paying twice.

Cost example: door frame restoration

A recent client posted a rotted door frame on Handyhand. The quotes ranged between DKK 4,000 and DKK 6,000, plus materials, and nobody guaranteed the frame would close properly afterwards.

My Fixera quote was DKK 4,800 including materials, moisture treatment, a custom insert, sanding, finishing and a written handover. Final invoice: DKK 4,800 — no surprises. The repaired door is now part of the project gallery.

How to decide quickly

Choose Handyhand if…

  • The task is light, repetitive, or you can re-check quality yourself.
  • You are comfortable coordinating several helpers and handling disputes.
  • Documentation and warranties are not important.

Choose Fixera if…

  • The job involves repairs, diagnostics, or building regulations.
  • You want a fixed price, insurance, and a single point of responsibility.
  • You need the work completed quickly with pro-grade tools and materials.
